The Toronto Marlies returned from a three-week hiatus this past weekend only to run into Belleville Senators goaltender Mads Søgaard.

Toronto had been on hiatus due to league COVID-19 protocols before welcoming Belleville to town for a pair of weekend meetings, The Marlies resumed play this past Saturday afternoon for the first time since April 10.

Søgaard, making his AHL debut that afternoon, proved to be an unfriendly welcome committee in the Belleville net. The 20-year-old, an Ottawa Senators 2019 second-round pick, held Toronto scoreless for the opening 41:58 to carry Belleville to an eventual 5-3 win. A day later, Søgaard stood in net once again and frustrated the Marlies with 29 saves in a 4-1 loss.
